  Now occupying the former home of Pickles, Mezza Mediterranean Grill serves comfort Mediterranean food at Artesia City Plaza. I haven't been to Mezza in about 5 years, so with coupon in hand, I headed to Mezza's new location to check them out after the change in scenery.
  
  Half & half plate (beef shawerma & gyro) with rice & choice of 2 sides (baba ganouj & fatoush salad)-
  Aw, man! The shawerma was well done & tough. It looked nice & tender upon appearance, but was almost as hard as jerky once eaten. The gyro was a little better, but the texture was as if it was lightly fried. Meat cooked on a spit should be tender, but alas, these weren't up to snuff. The baba ganouj was nice, with the brightness of the eggplant coming through. The fatoush salad was tossed with a liberal amount of olive oil, not needing any of the accompanying dressing.
  
  Chicken tawook with rice & choice of 2 sides (hummus & baba ganouj)-
  Now, this was better. Big, thick chunks of grilled marinated chicken w/ a delicious garlic sauce. I've had stronger garlic sauce at other locations, but Mezza's wasn't bad. Plus, I was given several extra w/o charge. The hummus was creamy and pleasant, smeared on a little of everything.
  
  Besides entrees, Mezza Mediterranean Grill has sandwiches, salads, poutine, fries & other items on the menu. Lunch specials are also available to choose from.
  
  Service was excellent. The guy attending to us was friendly, giving us recommendations & refilling our drinks (okay, mainly mine) in a timely manner. Upon being given to-go containers, we were given an extra garlic sauce to take home). Seating is via booths & tables, with a private table on the left by the restrooms.
  
  Parking is in a private lot at Artesia City Plaza. Mezza is located on the left of La Tavolata.
  
  Mezza Mediterranean Grill is a decent spot for average quality Mediterranean food. I was disappointed how overcooked their beef shawerma & gyro were, coming from a guy who likes medium rare. I thought cooking on a spit eliminated the possibility of tough meat. Maybe my plate was already cut beforehand? Who knows? However, the chicken tawook was a much better offering. I'll have to give this place another try to see if my experience was an unlikely aberration.
